We needed a car to replace the aging Pontiac 6000 that took us Cross Country back in 1995. Being owners of a new home, we did not have unlimited funds to spend on a new car. Having owned 3 VWs ('86 GTI, '92 Corrado SLC VR6 and currently a '96 Passat GLX VR6) I wanted to check out the new generation of Jettas. Unfortunately, even the cheapest Jetta with the VR6 (drive one once - you'll never go back) was too expensive. We looked at the Acura Integras, but again, too expensive with a decent motor. Finally, we checked out the new Civic Si - 160hp, 8000rpm redline, serious suspension for under $17,500. Sold!
