Left Boulder at 5:30 in the morning for the big drive to California. Passed by Lakeside Park just as the sun was hitting the Cyclone - a sight to see. Went I-70 across Colorado, perhaps the prettiest section of any Interstate highway. The section that passes through Glen Canyon is really spectacular. Continued on I-70 through Utah, splitting off onto US-6/50 south of Salt Lake City. Took US-6/50 into Nevada, then headed SW on US-6 at Ely. Stayed on US-6 through Tonopah and finally into Bishop, California. I love driving on lonely highways across Utah and Nevada - amazing desert scenery, unlimited visibility, the ability to sustain supra-legal speeds. Average 85 across Nevada, including gas and food stops. Not too bad. Got into Bishop about 6:30 PST, for an elapsed time of about 14 hours to cover 1000 miles.
